Areas of focus

Are you or your child struggling with anxiety or depression? Are you finding it hard to cope, or feel as though you are being hijacked by big emotions or distressing thoughts? Have you or your child experienced a traumatic event or a series of traumatic events? Do you feel watchful, or jumpy or have distressing thoughts or nightmares? Do you notice that your mood and energy levels have been impacted? Do you tell yourself that you are going to be okay, but don’t actually feel ‘okay’ inside? If so, trauma focused counselling may be able to help. In different ways, trauma focused approaches help people deal with distressing symptoms, and address the underlying beliefs and feelings that can develop in response to traumatic events. Jennifer has extensive experience in a variety of trauma-focused therapies include EMDR, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Emotion Focused Therapy.

Are you in a relationship and looking for support? Do you want to make your relationship stronger or prepare for the next major life transition with your partner? Perhaps there was a betrayal or a rupture to the relationship? Or maybe you are avoiding conflict and not having important conversations? Relationships can be fulfilling but they can also be messy and complex. On some level we all need to feel seen, heard and understood and it can be tough when this need is dismissed or not being met. Jennifer is passionate and skilled in working with couples and is pleased to offer the Gottman Method, Emotion Focused Therapy and other more specific couples-focused interventions.

Are substances or problematic behaviors playing a big role in your life (or the life of a loved one)? Are you struggling with cutting back or do you feel guilt related to your substance use or behavior? Are you in recovery and trying to avoid relapse? Do you have other mental health concerns in addition to a substance or behavior addiction? If so, you need a provider who understands substance-use disorders and behavior addictions, and the role that concurrent disorders can have on treatment and relapse prevention. Jennifer has a post-graduate certificate in Addiction Education and is able to help treat individuals and couples who are dealing with addictions, or those who have family members struggling with an addiction, or those who are in recovery.
